Nice hand in pot limit omaha

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 | all-in, full house, Omaha, Pot Limit, straight | No Comments

To be clear, this is not one of my own played hands. I am not such a huge fan of pot limit games, and not one of Omaha poker either. But some minutes ago I saw a good friend of me catching a real nice pot in PLO, especially for such low stakes. Don’t think you can’t blame the other two players for being in this huge pot. Two guys have flopped the nut straight, one of them was drawing to a royal flush too. Ok, the other did a quite loose call preflop, I admit. But the weakest hand on the flop got the jackpot,  hehehe. Nice catch, sir !!!

But, off the record! Could someone please explain me why so many people play Pot Limit Poker (Omaha) games. Why is it so much fun, because at the moment I just don’t get it. I think it’s just one huge drawing festival. Or is it commonly played by n00bs who don’t care about their money? :p An explanation is welcome :D Cheers

We had some server issues but …

now we’re back ;) I’ll start with another quite nice hand for me I played on Fat Bet Poker a couple a days ago. I warn you: Fat Bet Poker is known for his amount of complete donks hitting the tables :D The site is ugly, hand history features are rubbish, but yeah you can’t have all :)

One of the most common beginner mistakes when playing Hold’em is to not think about the action but just call and don’t get rid of your (not super but quite good) hands. Such attitude got me paid of ;)

I’ll do my best reconstruct the table (as I said, the hand histories at Fat Bet are rubbish). I got deals some nice suited connectors

and my opponent picked up

in early position so he raised to 1$ preflop. I was in late position so obviously I called hoping for a monster flop.

The flop showed us

which was a fantastic flop for me :) The guy with AQos kept (over)betting, for an amount of 3$. I decided to just flatcall, hoping for some next bets on turn and river.

Turn:

Ok, two pair ! Not super, but probably enough to have this guy beat. I put him on a high pocket pair … The guy betted 5$ and again I just called. So we both went to the river which gave me probably the nuts. The river was another 8 so I made a full boat. He betted again with only toppair, 9$ and I came over the top pushin all-in. Within one single all his money went in, shoving it into my direction :D

Strange thing, isn’t it? The player just had to let his hand go when he could, but he didn’t and that way he donated me alot of money (for a 25NL table, potsize was 65EUR). So what do we remind? Don’t just push the buttons, but take the time to overthink the hand and action to make a smart decision. If not, you’ll get surprised a lot ;)

damn, didn’t see that coming
